Trade Assurance Tracking: How to Track Protected Alibaba Orders

  • by

Trade Assurance is Alibaba’s payment-protection program: your money is held
until you confirm the order is right. That protection changes how tracking works,
because a covered order has an extra layer you can use if something goes wrong.
This page covers tracking and disputes for protected orders only. In practice the protection matters most on larger or first-time orders, where the downside of a bad supplier is too big to leave uncovered — on a small repeat buy you may not need it, but the tracking steps below still apply either way.

What Trade Assurance is and how it tracks

What Trade Assurance is (in one paragraph)

When you pay through Alibaba’s Trade Assurance, the platform — not just the
supplier — is party to the order. The funds are released to the supplier only
after you confirm receipt or after the protection window closes. That gives you
leverage a plain bank transfer never would.

How Trade Assurance orders get tracked

The logistics view lives in the same place as any other order, with one
difference: it is tied to the protected payment, so the timeline matters for
refunds.

  1. Open My Orders → the Trade Assurance order.
  2. Go to the Logistics / Shipment section to see the number and carrier.
  3. Copy the number into a tracker as described in the tracking number guide.

The full tracking walkthrough explains every status you
might see along the way.

Tracking is technically the same feed, but a protected order lets you act on a
bad outcome instead of just watching it.

If something goes wrong: dispute and refund steps

  1. Confirm the parcel is genuinely lost or not as described — gather the tracking

history as evidence (a number stuck on “exception” for weeks is strong proof).
  2. From the order page, open Request a refund / Open dispute.
  3. Upload the tracking screenshot and your messages with the supplier.
  4. Alibaba mediates; if the supplier can’t prove delivery, the held funds return to you.

Act inside the protection window. Once it closes and funds release, recovery gets
much harder.

What Trade Assurance does not cover

  • Buyer’s remorse. Protection is for non-delivery or goods not as described, not for changing your mind after the order ships.
  • Customs duties you didn’t budget for. The held payment covers the product and agreed shipping, not import taxes assessed at the border.
  • Delays from forces outside the supplier. A port strike or a customs hold is not automatically a refund trigger — what matters is evidence the goods never arrived.

Keeping the protection valid is mostly about acting inside the window and keeping your tracking evidence tidy, so a dispute is a formality rather than a fight.

Before you pay: keep the protection valid

  • Pay through the Alibaba order, not by bank transfer. Only on-platform payment counts toward Trade Assurance; a “pay me directly” request forfeits the protection.
  • Confirm the supplier is TA-enabled. The order page shows the coverage badge before you commit.
  • Keep every message on-platform. Disputes rely on the Alibaba message thread as evidence; moving to email or WhatsApp weakens your case.
  • Inspect promptly on arrival. The window to raise a not-as-described claim is limited, so open the parcel and check it against the listing quickly.

Frequently asked questions

How do I track a Trade Assurance order?
From My Orders, open the order and use the Logistics section to copy the number, then track it on the carrier site or an aggregator.

Is Trade Assurance tracking different from normal tracking?
The scan feed is the same, but a protected order adds a platform-mediated dispute and refund path if the goods don’t arrive or don’t match.

Can I get a refund if tracking shows delivered but I never got it?
If the address was correct and the parcel is genuinely missing, open a dispute with the tracking evidence; Alibaba mediates and can return the held payment.
